AI/GenAI Ethical Use Policy
Indonesian Journal of Business Intelligence (IJUBI)
1. Introduction
The Indonesian Journal of Business Intelligence (IJUBI) is committed to upholding the highest standards of research integrity, originality, and transparency. In response to the rapid advancement of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI/GenAI), this policy outlines ethical guidelines governing acceptable and unacceptable uses of AI/GenAI in manuscript preparation and publication.
2. Authorship and Accountability
-
AI/GenAI tools cannot be credited as authors and cannot serve as corresponding authors.
-
AI systems lack ethical accountability; therefore, full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the manuscript rests solely with the human authors.
-
Authors must retain full intellectual and scientific control over all manuscript content.
3. Acceptable Use of AI/GenAI
Authors may use AI/GenAI tools only for non-substantive and supportive purposes, including:
Language Editing
-
Grammar, spelling, and style refinement
-
Consistency and clarity improvement
Non-substantive Summary Assistance
-
Drafting initial summaries based strictly on author-written text
-
Structural or organizational suggestions without generating new scientific content
Administrative Support
-
Reference formatting
-
Basic table preparation
-
Text duplication or similarity checking
Translation
-
AI-assisted translation is permitted, provided authors conduct careful final review and correction.
All permitted AI uses must occur under direct author supervision, with full verification of outputs.
4. Unacceptable Use of AI/GenAI
The following uses are strictly prohibited:
Generation of Scientific Content
-
Hypothesis development
-
Research methodology design
-
Data analysis or statistical modeling
-
Interpretation of results
-
Scientific discussion or conclusions
Data Fabrication or Manipulation
-
Business, organizational, or operational data
-
Survey or observational data
-
Financial or strategic datasets
Creation of False or Unverifiable References
-
AI-generated citations or literature reviews without manual source verification
Confidentiality Violations
-
Inputting sensitive, proprietary, or personal data into public AI systems.
5. Disclosure of AI Use
Transparency is mandatory. Authors must disclose any permitted AI use in the Acknowledgment or Writing Methods section using the following format:
“The authors used AI tools (name, version) solely for language editing and/or technical assistance. No scientific content, data analysis, or interpretation was generated by AI. The authors take full responsibility for the integrity and originality of the manuscript.”
If no AI was used:
“The authors declare that no AI/GenAI tools were used in preparing the scientific content of this manuscript.”
Failure to disclose AI use constitutes an ethical violation.
6. Responsibilities of Authors
Authors must ensure that:
-
The manuscript is original, free from plagiarism, and free from AI-generated fabrication.
-
All facts, data, and references are independently verified.
-
AI use does not compromise research integrity, ethical standards, or confidentiality.
-
Authors remain fully accountable for any ethical issues arising from inappropriate AI use.
7. Editorial Screening and Enforcement
The IJUBI editorial team may conduct:
-
AI-content detection screening
-
Data and reference verification
-
Manual review for authenticity
If violations are identified—including undisclosed AI use, AI-generated scientific content, fabricated data, or unverifiable references—the manuscript may be:
-
Returned for revision
-
Rejected
-
Retracted (if published)
-
Subject to further ethical action in accordance with COPE guidelines
8. Policy Updates
This policy will be reviewed and updated periodically to align with developments in AI technology and evolving international ethical standards (COPE, ICMJE, WAME).
