ABSTRACT
This study aims to analyze the influence of financial knowledge, self-control, and lifestyle on the personal financial management of accounting students in Yogyakarta. The findings indicate that although students possess an economic education background, they still face challenges in transitioning toward financial independence, as reflected in their consumptive behavior and lack of systematic financial planning. This research employed a quantitative approach with an explanatory research design. The population consisted of accounting students from several universities in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Stratified purposive sampling was applied, with criteria including being active students in at least the third semester, having completed finance-related courses, and willingness to fully complete the questionnaire. A total of 200 respondents were proportionally distributed across the universities. Data were collected through online questionnaires using a five-point Likert scale and analyzed with multiple linear regression. The results revealed that financial knowledge had a positive effect on financial management, self-control had a positive and significant effect, while lifestyle showed a significant negative effect. Simultaneously, all three variables significantly influenced students’ financial management. These findings highlight that students’ financial management is shaped by cognitive, psychological, and social factors, suggesting the need for practical financial literacy programs, strengthened self-control, and more rational lifestyle management.
